"Couleurs de Chine" is dedicated to supporting young people (especially girls) from minority groups through their studies, thereby empowering them to do their best until graduation, providing funds for building and fitting out schools not forthcoming from local authorities, and supporting cultural activities. By autumn 2014, nearly 5,000 children were attending school (60%), junior high school (25%), high school (10%) and university (5%) thanks to the generosity of our sponsors and patrons.
About "Couleurs de Chine"
The association aims: - to raise awareness of the cultural heritage of Chinese ethnic minorities, and to contribute to education in some underprivileged regions in Southern China, - to provide, as far as it is able, an appropriate humanitarian response, and undertake or support actions aimed at economic development or protection of the ecosystem at the right time.
In this context, the association undertakes action in the following fields:
1) Helping girls to attend school The schooling programme underway since March 1998 aims to give the greatest number of children of school-going age, especially girls from the “Great Miao Mountains” region north of Guangxi, access to primary school education for six years and to junior high school for 3 years. The most brilliant pupils are supported into high school and even into university.
2) Building, fitting out and equipping schools The association also contributes to funding the building, repair and fitting out of schools, dormitories and equipping schools with learning media, furniture, blackboards, libraries, schoolbags and school material for the pupils.
3) Helping to preserve cultural heritage The association also aims to help the local populations to preserve their cultural traditions by maintaining, restoring or rebuilding community buildings in the villages, such as the Dong “Drum Towers”, but also by encouraging the wearing of traditional dress by helping to set up music and dance groups in the schools. The cultural actions are funded by special donations.
With Club Méditerranée Corporate Foundation
The Club Méditerranée Corporate Foundation has been supporting Couleurs de Chine since 2015 by sponsoring schooling for 25 primary school pupils and 2 high school pupils. The Club Med Village of Guilin is planning to welcome a group of ten high school pupils in 2016 for a discovery course in the hospitality professions.
Use of the collected funds
The funds collected through Friends of the Foundation go towards financing school education for girls in the north of the Guangxi region. For instance, schooling costs for 3 years amount to $280 for a primary school pupil, and $2,000 for a high school pupil.
