About Libraries Without Borders
Since 2007, Libraries Without Borders has been working to bring knowledge to those who are deprived of it, from refugee camps in Burundi to rural areas in Colombia, from priority neighbourhoods to emergency accommodation centres in France.
On average, displaced people and refugees spend 17 years in a camp, without access to education, learning, entertainment or openness to the world. This is what 50 million people in the world are experiencing today.
The various activities of Libraries Without Borders have reached 6 million people in 48 countries by building people's capacities around the major issues that make up today's world: education, health, employment, citizenship or digital technology.
Displaced people and refugees obviously have immediate needs for food, shelter and health care. But once these needs are covered, people must rebuild themselves, recreate links. Too often, the tools are lacking to project themselves into the future.
Since access to culture is a fundamental right, Libraries Without Borders has developed several tools, including the Ideas Box, which consists in creating a space for culture and exchange in camps for refugees and people displaced by conflicts or disasters.
The Ideas Box is a standardized, easily transportable and field deployable kit media library. It is a robust and energy autonomous system that offers content finely adapted to the needs of populations, their language and culture. With its computer, library and cinema module, the Ideas Box is designed to provide people with essential tools to inform themselves, build themselves and imagine a better future. The set is composed of 4 boxes of different colors for 4 themes:
- - Connect (internet connection, computers, tablets...),
- - Learning (library, books...),
- - Playing (board games, video games...),
- - Create (plastic arts workshop, writing, creation of a blog...).
The kit opens in less than 20 minutes to create a 100m2 space that can accommodate up to 70 persons.

With the Club Med Foundation
The Club Med Foundation particularly supports Libraries Without Borders in Sicily. The Club Med of Cefalù welcomes young migrants supported by Libraries Without Borders in Palermo for internship. Business discovery sessions and job interview simulations are also available.
"The Club Med Foundation was created in order to support joint projects proposed by GOs-GEs, in the vicinity of our Resorts and offices. It aims to meet local needs by distributing its resources between large numbers of programmes around the world, and then using the leverage provided by the involvement of its teams, and that of the GMs. It is thanks to the generosity of these “Gentils Donateurs” that an increasing number of projects can be turned into reality, and faster."
Agnès Weil, General Delegate of the Club Med Foundation
How will the funds be used?
